Information, in a broad sense, is structured, processed and organised data that is relevant to the user’s needs. It gives context to other data and helps decision making by providing information about relationships. For instance, a single customer’s sale in a restaurant is data because it is relevant to the restaurant’s needs to run the business.
Information can be of different kinds. Ordinal data is very specific and may change from time to time as circumstances alter. Processed data is a subset of Ordinal data and is more precise and less prone to changes in meaning. Data is processed so it can be used for some kind of purpose or for another purpose which transforms the data into a usable form. A good example is how a weather forecast may be improved by taking into consideration current weather conditions, trends and forecasts.
In the context of businesses, information is very important but not as valuable as services and goods. Without data there cannot be analysis, advertising or decision making and without knowledge about how customers use your product there is no way to improve your services. Therefore, information is a key element in a successful business. The importance of information has increased as the 21st century has progressed and we have entered into a new phase of globalisation, international trade and corporate social responsibility.
In the United States of America in 2021 the USA government passed the Universal Information Processing Act as a requirement to all federal agencies to provide timely and accurate public information and services. The bill was named after then Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tom Dasch, and is named “The Making Public Information Accessibility Act”. The intention of the act is to “provide for the creation and maintenance of records of the functions of all officers and employees of the government and of all agencies of the United States”. The main objectives of the act are to promote information accessibility, provide for an improved system of public information and make the use of databases more efficient.
The four augustari date is an alternative date in the Indian Hindu calendar; it is also called “Indian New Year”. “Cultural pluralism” means acceptance of different views on cultural and historical issues. However, the United States government does not accept the view that the origin of cultures can be traced through the genes of one individual who claims it to be his ancestors. Although the USA does not recognise a national origin for a particular culture, cultures do tend to respect the traditions of other cultures, often sharing similarities in beliefs and practices among family members.
